TAKE ACTION NOW: Exempt Film & Television Industry from SB 122
After the success advocating for the expanded funding and modernization of our California Film and Television Jobs Program 4.0 last year, we are now back at it again fighting to protect the important changes to our program.
Budget bill SB 122 that passed and was signed earlier this year threatens the viability of the California Film and Television Jobs Program by reneging on commitments made and reducing the competitive structure that we fought so hard for just last year.
The bill reduces the value of credits for both productions currently shooting in California and productions completed in earlier years. In both cases, the rules are being changed after workers have already been paid and vendors have already been compensated. The result of these changes after the fact is uncertainty and mistrust which undermines confidence in our program
The Entertainment Union Coalition, alongside the MPA and industry stakeholders, has been engaging with the state legislature and the Governor’s office to bring attention to this issue and call for an urgent solution to the unintentional consequences of SB 122.
Our success in last year’s fight however was a direct reflection of the engagement and voices of OUR MEMBERS.
We are now asking our members to once again use their voice to raise the concerns about our fragile industry and call for an urgent solution to SB 122 that exempts our industry and protects our jobs program or provides an equivalent resolution to ensure our workforce and industry are not negatively impacted.
