“Republicans in Congress released their long awaited Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal/replace legislation on Monday evening. The bill delays, but does not permanently repeal, the 40% excise tax on high quality health benefits – the so-called “Cadillac tax.”

This new legislation repeals all of the taxes included in the original ACA except for the 40% tax on health benefits, which has been pushed back to 2025. The result will be a huge tax cut for the wealthiest Americans and big businesses and a substantial tax increase for the hundreds of thousands of Teamster members whose quality health benefits you have worked so hard for at the negotiating table over the years.

This legislation could move very quickly, so please contact any Members of Congress and Senators in your area to let them know that we are strongly opposed to the inclusion of the “Cadillac tax” in this new legislation. The bill will be reviewed by the House Ways and Means Committee and Energy and Commerce committee.

All Union Members would be directly impacted by this tax. This is another attempt to hold Unions Hostage. Our Members would see our plans greatly increase.

We will provide additional information on this legislation as it becomes available, but this issue is of such critical importance to Teamster members that we cannot wait for the legislation to begin moving before we take action. Our health care system may not be perfect, but we need to let Congress know right now that taxing middle class health benefits is not the answer.
