The Basic Crafts led by Leo T. Reed of Teamsters Local 399 and Randy Cammack of Joint Council 42 were the first to support the joint venture transaction of Comcast to create the new NBC Universal. Please read below and click on the following links to learn more on this support that will create multiple jobs for our members.

Below is an appreciation email from Keith Gorham, Senior Vice President of Labor Relations for NBC Universal, for leading the way in publicly voicing our support in writing:

Subject: Comcast/GE JV transaction FCC Approval

Gentlemen,

I am out of town attending to a family matter otherwise I would call all of you personally. In the interest of time, I am sending this message.

I just wanted to let you know, if you don’t already, that the FCC has finally approved the joint venture transaction to create the new NBC Universal.

It has been a tough year and many parties and interest groups have voiced their opposition. However, we always knew that it was not a matter of if the deal would be approved but rather when and with what conditions.

That being said, a number of Industry Unions and Guilds voiced their support–or did not oppose the joint venture, with one notable predictable exception.

However, I note that the Teamsters and the Basic Crafts led the way in publicly voicing their support in writing. That was a true sign of leadership and we at NBC Universal appreciate it. It’s easier to follow than to lead and it shows the vision and foresight of all of your Unions and, you all in particular.

The new NBC Universal will be a more vibrant and active company and will be better equipped to compete on a worldwide basis. That will mean jobs. You made the right choice to support the approval of our deal.

Based on your example and with you in mind, I fought for something for your members (other union employees) to receive. More on that later when we can reveal it publicly, but I do want you to know that your actions have been much appreciated.

Best regards,

Keith
